Japan’s Military Sexual Slavery system has to be considered as an issue of Japan’s war and post-war responsibility and as a violation of women’s human rights in Asia. Thus, VAWW NET Japan, with Korean and Philippine women, organized the Women’s International War Crime Tribunal on Japan’s Military Sexual Slavery in 2000 with the intent to break the cycle of impunity with regard to war-time crimes against women, see the perpetrators tried and punished, and thereby, to restore gender justice, human rights and dignity to individual woman. The judgment passed by the Women’s International War Crime Tribunal has been widely acknowledged as a decisive landmark in women’s fight for gender justice. It has led to the worldwide recognition of women’s rights as human rights and the strong condemnation of human trafficking past and present.
